How cases reach the laboratory
Cases are shipped using UPS and Purolator in both directions, which means a case in transit can be tracked — useful when a seat appointment is already booked. Carrier schedules rather than distance in kilometres set the practical rhythm for most practices.
Digital scans and conventional impressions are equally welcome. A scan removes the outbound journey entirely and lets design work begin the day the case is captured, which matters more the further a practice is from Burnaby.
Knowing your own collection and delivery pattern, and booking seat appointments against it rather than against an estimate, removes most of the uncertainty that distance otherwise introduces.
What proximity changes, and what it does not
Three things genuinely depend on being nearby: patients attending the laboratory for colour matching on demanding anterior cases, cases with intermediate stages such as a framework try-in or a bite verification, and the ability to visit and see how work is done.
A good deal does not depend on it at all. Digital submission arrives at the same moment from anywhere. Technical quality and communication are functions of how a laboratory works rather than where it sits.
For most practices the sensible position is to weigh proximity against what they actually need it for, and to choose on consistency, communication and technical judgement rather than on distance alone.

Fixed restorations across ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal, full metal, composite and provisional categories. Implant restorative components. Removable prosthetics from complete and partial dentures through relines, rebases and repairs. Orthodontic and occlusal appliances.
That breadth is deliberate. A practice sending posterior crown work today may need demanding anterior aesthetics, implant restorative work or a partial denture within the year, and changing laboratory for each category is the fragmentation that undermines a relationship.

Fairmont provides professional services to dentists and denturists throughout British Columbia and to dental offices across Canada. The laboratory is not open to the public; patients attend only by appointment for shade matching arranged through a practice.
