A staged discipline
Removable work is unlike fixed restorative in one important respect: it is built through a sequence of appointments, each producing a record the next stage depends on. Primary impression, custom tray, definitive impression, bite block and jaw relation, try-in, finish.
The Rx form reflects that directly — Custom Tray, Bite Block, Frame Try-in, Set-up Try-in and Finish are all separate procedure options, and a case is prescribed one stage at a time.
Skipping a stage rarely saves time. It moves the problem to a later appointment where correction is more expensive and the patient is less tolerant of it.
Where removable cases go wrong
Almost always in the records rather than the fabrication. An impression that does not capture the functional periphery, a jaw relation recorded at the wrong vertical dimension or without a reproducible position, or a try-in approved without properly assessing phonetics and appearance.
Each of those produces a prosthesis that is technically well made and does not work in the mouth, and none of them is correctable at the bench.
The stages exist precisely so that each can be verified before the next is built on it.
Coordinating with fixed work
Where a partial denture and crowns are planned together, they have to be designed together. A crown made without knowing a clasp will engage it, or without a rest seat and guide plane prepared into it, is a crown that will need remaking.
